Apostille and legalisation; how does it work?
It could be necessary to sworn translation Legalisation is done by means of a so called apostille or a comprehensive legalisation procedure. The website of De Rechtspraak explains legalisation ensures that a document (the translation) is suitable for use abroad. In the Netherlands, legalisation is done by means of an apostille, which you can apply for at any court in the Netherlands, or by means of legalisation via the Consular Service Centre (CDC).
The apostille is a stamp (or sticker) placed on an official document by the court. This stamp shows that my signature (in case you have the sworn translation translated by me) is genuine. This stamp makes the document valid abroad. When the country where you need to submit the document, is party to the Apostille Convention, an apostille on the document by the court will suffice. For these proceedings, the court charges a court fee of €25.
You can go to the Court and arrange this yourself. If you want to make it easy on yourself, you would ask me to do it for you.
